District B13 Kicks Ass
I just watched the coolest fucking movie - District B13.
It's set in Paris in 2010 when the slums have become so bad that the French government has built big walls around them and left them to their own devices. Eventually, a bomb ends up in the city and a cop enlists the help of one of the people living there, Leïto, to help him recover the bomb.
When the movie started off, there's this fantastic parkour chase (if you saw Casino Royale when Bond was chasing some guy at the beginning around a crane and stuff, that's parkour) with Leïto. I didn't realize it at the time, but Leïto is played by David Belle, the guy who actually invented parkour. Watching him run around and fight reminds me a lot of Jackie Chan except Belle is French, tattooed, and blistering hot. He has totally just become my new pretend boyfriend.
The movie was just so awesome - great fight scenes, good chemistry between the two leads, and a kick ass soundtrack. It's certainly not going to win an Oscar or anything, but it was a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Apparently, a sequel is in the works which is awesome news.
I really didn't think that a French action film was going to be that awesome. Shows you what I know!
