The Astros Nun
Ever since I was a kid, I've been a huge fan of Astros baseball.
This had a lot to do with my grandma (my dad's mom) as she was the biggest Astros fan ever. My brother and I were Astros Buddies, this thing the team did so that kids could come to the game early, go down on the field of the Astrodome (Oh, how I miss the Dome!), and meet the players. I'm pretty sure that we were buddies just so my grandma could tag along and get autographs and talk to the players.
As a matter of fact, when Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field) first opened, I was highly biased against the stadium since I adored the Dome so much. However, Minute Maid is a gorgeous field (even if it does have a dumb name) and the whole retractable-roof thing is awesome since Houston does have such crazy weather (and it's always so fucking hot during baseball season).
While I may not really watch the games (unless they happen to be on in Sambuca or something), I still consider myself a true fan and I love their whole "Return of the Good Guys" theme. Baseball is one of the few sports that I actually like - unless you count poker, which I always mention since it's constantly (Yay!) on ESPN.
Back when I was with my ex, his company used to get these great seats from a small law office in their building that was right in front of the press boxes. The seventh inning stretch was always fun since the sports announcers would throw peanuts and Cracker Jacks to the people in this section. Mmmm. Cracker Jacks.
Off to the left of these seats, I would always see a nun and it totally tickled me pink to see her enjoying the games so much. I often wondered what her story was and today, when I went to YouTube to check a setting for someone's help ticket, I was delighted to see that the first featured story was on the Astros Nun!
If you've been to a game, odds are you've seen Sister Damian in the stands. If you haven't, you should go and check her out. It's so awesome that she's getting to experience something she loves so much. And while I don't say something like this often, or ever, God bless Drayton McLane for taking such good care of her.

What did you think of the GM and Manager getting the boot?
Purpura was promoted over his head, his time had come. Firing Garner wasn't right.
Giving tickets to the nun must be McClane's one redeeming quality...the press conference announcing the terminations just had me livid. It reminded me too much of work...you know the fat cat Vice President makes an announcement to the group about the changes he's making due to poor results and everyone in the room knows the biggest or only problem is with the idiot making the announcement!
